Graduation (our trip part 2)

Saturday, June 7, we got up and headed off to San Antonio for my cousin Sarah's graduation. My aunt had yummy barbeque for lunch. It was so good to see all of my aunts and uncles and cousins, some that I hadn't seen in years! I don't know what I was thinking, but I didn't get my camera out the whole day. I guess I was just enjoying the time with the family. I did get a couple of pictures at graduation.

Our Trip (Part 1)

Our trip started out on Thursday June 5. We headed to Mom's house and then left with her to Amy's house. On the way there we heard something that sounded like something metal hit the car. Then the car starts sounding funny and the "check tire pressure" light comes on. Sure enough we had a flat. Neither of us has ever changed a tire. So we call Dad and then Amy to see what to do. Dad thought they had road side assistance on their insurance, but no such luck. Rob is at work and we are about 20 miles or so from Amy's. So we decide we can do this....hahaha We got the spare out, got the lug nuts loosened, and then came the jack. Where do you put that silly thing anyway. We are trying to figure it out when our "knight in shining armor" rides up on his big tractor. He asks if we have it all under control and we both said in unison "NO". He graciously changes the tire for us rather quickly and we are on our way and he rides off into the sunset! HA We barely got to Amy's before the spare tire went flat as well. Not a good start to a trip. We had a good visit with Amy and her family that night. Megan's hand got slammed in the door, but luckily nothing was broken, everyone survived, and there were no more catastrophes. The next morning we headed out to Aunt Marylyn's house in Austin. That trip started out a little rough but after rearranging the seating situation, all went smoothly. We got to Aunt Marylyn's about 4:30 and had a little time to visit before supper. She and Don made some yummy spaghetti with salad and bread. Megan helped Aunt Marylyn set the table. She did an excellent job and the table was beautiful with all the cloth napkins and napkin rings. We had bunny napkin rigns, red/white/blue napkin rings and flower napkin rings. Megan just couldn't make up her mind, but it was all beautiful anyway! :) After dinner we thought the kids needed something to do after being stuck in the car all day. So we went to the park to feed the ducks and play on the playground. We had a good time and it was really good to see Aunt Marylyn. The next morning we got up, had breakfast, and were on our way to San Antonio for my cousin Sarah's graduation.....

Baby Birds

Since we moved here we have had three "batches" of baby birds and one "on the way". They have been a source of fascination for me. I have been so excited watching these little birds grow and I am always sad to find my nests empty. We have some swallows above the porch on the carport and robins on the other side of the carport. I have recently been watching the swallows. They seem to hatch a couple of weeks before the robins. Today I went out and found all 3 of them on the ground. Bethany saw them and picked one up and squeezed it, and well that was the end of that baby bird. I found one more dead later and am not sure what happened to the other one. I buried them beside each other. I am not sure why they left the nest, they couldn't even fly yet. Oh well, I guess now I will have to wait for my robins to hatch. Here are some pictures of my last robins and the eggs that should hatch soon. I stand way back and zoom in, so I just get what I can get.

Hello Bell

Crazy us! We got a dog today. My boss's boss had some puppies he was giving away, and since we had been talking about getting a dog for quite some time we decided to take one. We went over today to choose the one we wanted. They are half lab and half border collie. They were all so cute and all girls! There were 2 brown ones that looked a lot like a lab and 1 black one that looked a lot like a collie. So we began the narrowing down process. One of the brown ones was definitely the dominant one, she was kind of a bully with the others. Hmmmm, not that one, although she was very cute. That left one brown and one black. The black one crawled up in James lap and the girls loved on her, Bethany was not afraid at all. Then we got the other brown one and she wouldn't hardly stay close enough to pet and Bethany acted like she was scared of her. So the decision was pretty much made for us. Bell is now a proud member of the Morton family. She and Megan have played since we got her home today. They are so cute running around the yard together. I think they are both tuckered out tonight. I have pictures, but can't share yet because my OLD, junky computer won't let me. We are going to B'ville Monday, so I will get them on at Mom's house then!

Goodbye Tooth, Hello Toothfairy

Megan lost her first tooth on Sunday (June 1). She had been wiggling, and wiggling, and wiggling that tooth. Grandmom kept asking her if she was brave enough to pull it yet, it was barely hanging on. She finally got ready and it popped right out with one little tug! She was so excited!! This Mommy was proud to be able to pull her first tooth. The toothfairy brought her a 5 dollar bill, but she wanted 8 quarters like Mommy had gotten for her first tooth. So we wrote the toothfairy a note and she graciously brought the quarters last night. She was even nice enough to leave the $5.

A Sad Weekend

We got a call Friday morning that a dear, sweet sister at our church had passed away. Peggie was a really nice lady and will be missed by all who knew her, especially her husband, Sidney. She had been struggling with pulmonary fibrosis for a few years, but her death was still sudden and somewhat unexpected. Please pray for the Roper family, especially Sidney, as they and we mourn the loss of Peggie. Heaven has gained a sweet soul.
